Switching internet and mobile provider at the same time
Switching internet and mobile provider at the same time in Belgium: one or two procedures, the order of steps, timings and up to €78 in compensation.
Yes, and sometimes in a single step: if your mobile line belongs to the fixed bundle you are leaving, Easy Switch moves it with everything else. Otherwise you run two procedures side by side, Easy Switch for the fixed services and portability for the mobile number, and you never cancel anything yourself.
Easy Switch is the Belgian procedure for changing fixed-line provider: the new provider cancels the old contract on your behalf once its own services are working at your address. It requires at least one fixed internet or TV service in the contract. Mobile number portability is a separate, free step that you request directly from the new provider.
A reader used to French rules will look for a RIO code or the 3179 number. Nothing of the kind exists in Belgium: a SIM card from the new provider and the ICCID of the old one are enough (Selectra, 4 September 2026).
One procedure or two, depending on where your mobile lives?
It depends on the contract that carries each line. These are the four cases a household meets.
| Your situation | Procedure | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile inside the fixed bundle you leave | Easy Switch, numbers requested in the same file | Easy Switch ID, customer number |
| Mobile on a separate contract, with the fixed-line provider | Easy Switch for the fixed line; depending on the provider, the mobile joins the file or needs its own portability | Easy Switch ID, ICCID of each SIM |
| Mobile on a separate contract, with another provider | Portability alone, Easy Switch only if the fixed line moves too | ICCID of each SIM |
| Prepaid card | Portability, after recovering the remaining credit | ICCID, number to port |
Table assembled on 23 October 2026 from Test-Achats (step 4 of switching provider: mobile and landline numbers can be transferred in the Easy Switch request), Selectra (4 September 2026) and this site's article on Easy Switch. Row 2 depends on the provider: ask in writing which of the two routes it applies.
In the first case, a single date settles everything. In the other three there are at least two calendars, and that is where households get caught.
In what order should you start the steps?
Six moves, in this order, and one prohibition: cancelling on your side.
- List every line: number, SIM card, carrying contract, device still being paid off.
- Gather the identifiers. The Easy Switch ID and customer number are on the first page of the bill; the ICCID of each card is printed on it (our guide to which code to give says where to read them).
- Sign up with the new provider and ask to keep all numbers in the same order.
- Fix the installation date of the fixed line, and write it down.
- Time the portability of separate mobiles to the fixed activation, never before.
- Return the lent equipment, then check that both old contracts are closed.
The identifier sits at the top of the bill at Proximus (its own copper, fibre and mobile networks), at Telenet (its own cable in Flanders and Brussels, BASE in the same group) and at Orange (its own mobile network plus the Walloon cable taken over from VOO). At Scarlet, part of the Proximus group, Proximus's fixed network is the foundation.
How long does all this take?
The fixed line sets the calendar. Mobile lines take a day.
| Step | Timing | Who decides |
|---|---|---|
| File passed to the old provider | about two working days | the new provider |
| Fixed-line installation | 3 days to 6 weeks, two weeks on average | the provider, with your appointment |
| Switch-over of the fixed line | a few hours; compensation beyond one working day | the new provider |
| Mobile number portability | one working day after validation, two for a complex port | the new provider |
Timings reconstructed on 23 October 2026: installation from Test-Achats, porting from Selectra, loss of service capped at one working day according to the BIPT's opinion on the Easy Switch decree.
My estimate for an ordinary household: two to three weeks end to end, six if a line has to be run to the front of the building. A house move changes that sum, and our guide to transferring a contract explains how.
What does the number not carry with it?
The number travels. The rest does not:
- the credit on a prepaid card, to be claimed from the old provider within a month, sometimes for a €5 fee;
- voicemail and the personal greeting;
- subscribed options, which end with the contract;
- the provider's e-mail address, which can be kept for 18 months if requested before the subscription ends;
- the remaining value of a financed phone, always due (Selectra, 4 September 2026).
Two of these are enough to spoil a well-prepared switch: the forgotten credit, and the e-mail address tied to twenty online accounts.
Does the convergence discount follow you?
No.
It belongs to the bundle you are leaving, so it disappears with it. CallMePower claims savings of up to €663 a year with a bundle against €312 for a mobile alone (page consulted on 23 October 2026), a reminder that you compare household bills, not isolated lines. Redo the sum for your four lines, bundle against bundle or bundle against separate contracts, with our guide to 3play or 4play bundles and the bundle ranking.
What happens if a line arrives late?
Three delays can stack up, and only the first is paid without you lifting a finger. Take a four-line household: the technician does not show up, the fixed line activates four days after the promised date, and the four mobiles port two days late.
| Item | Calculation | Amount | Payment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Missed technician | one missed appointment | €30 | automatic |
| Late activation of the fixed line | 4 days × €6 | €24 | to claim |
| Late port of four mobiles | 4 numbers × 2 days × €3 | €24 | to claim, within six months |
| Total | €78 | of which €30 automatic |
Calculation of 23 October 2026 on the scale in our article of 30 August 2026 and on Selectra (€3 per day and per number for a simple port, €5 for a complex port). Our Easy Switch article uses €5 from two numbers, Selectra speaks of a complex port: the calculation takes the €3 floor.
With no answer from the new provider, two avenues exist: the Telecommunications Ombudsman Service and the BIPT, the regulator.
Fixed line first, mobiles after: my rule
The fixed line is the only piece that depends on a technician and an appointment, so it is the only one that really slips. A mobile switches in a day. I therefore time separate mobiles to the fixed activation rather than the reverse, so that a moved appointment shifts one date instead of two. It is a common-sense setting, not a BIPT rule, and it only applies to mobiles outside the bundle: those inside it follow on their own.
